Why Waypoint?

Oftentimes people ask why we chose the name Waypoint Adventure. The more we explain to folks, “why waypoint” the more it begins to resonate true.

Life is a journey, comprised of significant goals. Sometimes those goals are clear and recognizable, but other times we need people or life experiences to open our eyes to their reality. As we move toward achieving these goals, we come across markers that help us stay on target. These markers might be people, experiences or ideas. Their intent is to focus us, redirect us or simply provide support.

To explain this idea, an easy metaphor can be drawn from the act of navigation with a map and compass. Once you have determined your destination or goal, you must set a bearing in that direction. In most situations you cannot see the end point, and in order to hit your mark accurately you must aim your compass to a point within view. These points are your “waypoints.” It is at these points that you can re-assess your positioning before pressing on toward your goal. In short, these waypoints are significant places along your journey that keep you on your desired path.

We believe that the programs at Waypoint Adventure will be a marker (waypoint) for our participants. Through the power of adventure experiences, we will strive to help our participants further develop an understanding of themselves and the world around them--thus directing them toward their goals.

It's Official!!

We hope that everyone is having a great summer! Aside from the heat, the weather has been pretty amazing. Hopefully you are all getting outside and enjoying it.

We apologize for not being more diligent in keeping everyone informed since the creation of this blog. Things here at Waypoint have been really busy, and we are just now finding time to update our progress.

So here it goes – As of yesterday (Thursday, July 16, 2010) we are officially recognized as a non-profit corporation in the state of Massachusetts!!!! Wahoooo!! We are really excited and hope you are too!

Although this is the first of many hurdles, we are really close to getting back out on programs with all of you. We can feel the wind, smell the pine trees, feel the water, and hear the great conversation. It’s almost time!

Our next major step is to file our paperwork with the Attorney General’s office to receive a “Certificate of Solicitation.” This certificate will allow us to raise funds. So, if you were planning on making a donation, hold off for a couple more weeks. We’ll let you know when we are clear to receive your generous gifts. :)

Finally, some other exciting news - We are working with a couple different design firms who are helping us to develop a logo and some marketing materials. It won’t be long until this will be finalized and you can see the new face of Waypoint Adventure. Until then, enjoy your summer and try to get outside as much as possible!
